Growing Pains of a New Profession: Soil Mechanics 1925-1940.
(Videotape or DVD)

Dr. Ralph Peck, one of the best-known and most honored of all the nation's geotechnical engineering educators, discusses milestones in the development of geotechnical engineering in this informative and entertaining 45-minute videotape or DVD.

Discover Terzaghi's establishment of the principles of the new science and the International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering that was held at Harvard in June 1936 and brought together a remarkably large representation of soil mechanic professionals from academic institutions and practice.

Originally recorded at the ASFE Annual Meeting of April 1988, Dr. Peck shares "insider information" on many historic figures' personalities, some of their rivalries and feuds, and even some of the tricks these pioneers played on one another.

Through special arrangement with ASFE, G-I members can now purchase their own copy of the videotape or DVD for only $35.
