G-I NewsGEO-INSTITUTEResolution 99-02Establishment of G-I Practice-Oriented Magazine Whereas, the G-I believes a practice-oriented magazine is an important member benefit and is dedicated to providing a magazine to all its members beginning in early 2000; and Whereas, the cost of utilizing Geotechnical News would necessitate a significant dues increase to G-I members that would be paid on a continuing basis to a for profit firm; and Whereas, ASCE management has decided that it is in the Society's best interest to operate a series of practice-oriented magazines to serve the interest areas of its institutes. Therefore, be it Resolved that the Geo-Institute Board of Governors accepts the offer of the Society to provide a magazine comparable in quality and content to Geotechnical News; and Be it Further Resolved that the new magazine will be published quarterly beginning in January 2000; and Be it Further Resolved that in compensation for this magazine for all its members through July 2001, G-I will provide ASCE Publication with the amount of $20,000 per year currently dedicated to Core Bits. It is further resolved that at the end of the two year start up period (July 2001) G-I and ASCE will reevaluate the finances of the magazine and take what ever actions they deem to be fair, reasonable and appropriate for both parties. |
