(2009a,b)

Method Summary

Inspection of all the materials used in the construction of the SMSE wall is done to confirm that appropriate materials meeting specification requirements are delivered to the construction site and to prevent damaged materials from being used during construction. Materials to be inspected include:

Precast concrete elements (both at casting yard and once delivered to the construction site)

Reinforcing elements and storage areas for these elements

Facing joint material

Reinforced backfill

Facing materials for shored section (e.g., wire mesh for grouting of nailed walls)

Accuracy and Precision

The accuracy of this testing is reliant on the experience of the inspector and the requirements of the job. In sensitive cases, extreme care should be taken during inspection of materials to ensure high-quality end results.

Adequacy of Coverage

Inspection of all materials should be completed prior installation in SMSE wall system.

Implementation Requirements

Implementation requires an experienced inspector, but otherwise is not difficult.

General Comments

This QC/QA procedure should be used in all SMSE wall applications.
