Effective June 1, ASCE recommends that decisions on whether to hold in-person meetings, events, or other activities should be made on a case-by-case basis by the Institute volunteer and staff leadership, consistent with guidance from local, state and federal governments and health officials where the meeting would be held.

This recommendation should not in any way be interpreted as encouragement for your groups to resume activities at or near your pre-pandemic levels; instead, we urge you to continue to explore options to offer alternate offerings, such as virtual events, and to use this opportunity to evaluate new and innovative means of delivering valuable service and resources to our members. Recognizing above all our ethical obligation to protect the public health, safety, and welfare, decisions to conduct an in-person event should be made only after careful consideration of whether in-person interaction is critical to meet desired objectives, the risk level posed by the particular activity, and the ability to enforce social distancing or other measures that may reduce the risk of transmission for the members, guests and support staff that participate in your committee meetings, conferences and events.

Note that ASCE staff continue to work remotely and we will begin a phased reopening of our headquarters building beginning June 10. Staff business travel remains restricted until further notice.

ASCE will continue to provide updates on our pandemic response at COVID-19 ASCE Event Cancellations and Updates.
