Landslide Reconnaissance
On January 29, 2021 a large rainfall event occurred in California's Big Sur area. The Rat Creek Slide caused the most severe damages among the nearly 60 drainage crossings impacted by the 2021 storm along this stretch of Highway 1. An EDS reconnaissance team visited the site on February 25, 2021, flew UAV (imaging and spectral light), and performed geologic and geotechnical surveys to understand the conditions that resulted in the slide. A summary of the team's report will be published in GeoStrata and is also located here.
The EDS reconnaissance team visited the Edenville and Sanford Dam Failures in Michigan, USA. The failure occurred on May 19, 2020. Video of the event on Youtube. A summary of the team's report will be published in GeoStrata and is also located here.
On June 3, 2020, there was a quick clay landslide in Alta, Norway. The EDS is attempting to arrange a reconnaissance of the site with the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute. CNN video and Youtube video .
